Looking at a Giulietta??
Discussion
I've hired loads of these from Avis (Manchester Airport)
Not sure what engines they come with as it doesn’t say on the outside but they are diesel and very nippy in sport mode on their DNA switch thing in the middle.
Surprising economical too for the pace it offers, I drive from Manchester Airport to Oxford and back and usually get back with a good amount of fuel left in the tank, about 48 MPG in real world, that’s Motorway, Country lanes, stop start etc
Worst bits for me is the odd layout of the dashboard and the driver’s seat is not adjustable enough, I'm 5'10 so not big but the seat position almost seems like it was designed for small people, worth checking it out if your tall.
best bit, the rear lights!

I'm looking at my next Alfa, & seem to be favouring a 2.0 Diesel 170bhp Veloce Giulietta.
Any experiences out there?
What thoughts on MPG??

Early 50s is the norm. If you fancy having a drive in one, I'm at the Alfa dealer in Knaresborough... Not too far from Nottingham?
ETA - Further than I thought...
And I'm at the Alfa dealer in Northampton! ETA - Further than I thought...

...170bhp veloce is very quick in Dynamic mode...you'll still get 40mpg though.
lovely looking car, rides nicely, engine is a bit noisy, interior very swish.
no foot rest is a pain if u have been used to one and it can look a bit plain in the wrong colour/wheel combo.
we have had ours for 1 year, 14k and no issues (well, the gear knob came loose but was replaced) and we love it.
it might do a similar job to focus / golf / astra but it looks soooo much better

Hired them from Avis also. Again, once in Dynamic mode lots of fun and there's a lot of mechanical grip on offer too!
Lovely place to sit too, although some of the switchgear isn't the best and buttons a bit confusing IMO, but it's a pretty minor gripe as overall it feels like a top quality product.
My gripe was fuel economy though, I didn't get more than 40mpg out of it, pretty much all motorway too. (Although it was 4 up...)

Love the fact you bring this up, when my girlfriend got in the car, after an initial look around she said the dashboard switchgear looks like its for children and designed by idiots.
I used to get one most other weeks and after driving them for several hours at a time I still struggled to easily put the blower on, or turn the heat up or down or changing the air vent circulation!?!
other than the odd layout, I agree, lovely place to be.

I don't know it would stop me from buying one, as I could probably forgive it the slightly mickey mouse ergonomics (it took me forever to work out where the resume function on the cruise control was for example!!) for the drive, quality, space and performance from that engine!I used to get one most other weeks and after driving them for several hours at a time I still struggled to easily put the blower on, or turn the heat up or down or changing the air vent circulation!?!

Plus, when in dynamic mode, if you scroll through the trip displays you get to one with a turbo pressure monitor graphic!!

...it is Italian don't forget...it has a wine cooler in the glovebox...only the Italians would put that in a car !Plus, when in dynamic mode, if you scroll through the trip displays you get to one with a turbo pressure monitor graphic!!

Did not know about the turbo pressure monitor, I'm picking up a hire car on Thursday so will have a look out for that, however, thats if I get the Giulietta as they have recently stopped giving me that and instead the new 1 series.

If that is not enough, to suggest potential purchasers might like to shoot themselves, due to their lack of, what's known as, "a life", then I dont know what else to suggest. Maybe, Blancmange ?
