Oh my car god what have I done JTD 156 Veloce purchase
Discussion
Well the Alfa itch has always been there, I've owned literally hundreds of cars but never an Alfa. So I went & bought myself a replacement shed motor.
She's a 2000 156 2.4 JTD Veloce (I think its the 150 bhp one???) with the big gay wing, teledials & the aero kit.
Now this was one of those slightly drunk Ebay purchases that hopefully works out or maybe not
I submitted a cheeky offer on this newly listed car & was'nt expecting anything, hey presto offer accepted & I've gone & bought one.
A trip to Cornwall to collect it yesterday & its here at home, it's not a bad one, well there's no lights on the dash for a start & everthing appears to work
no OBD error codes on my scanner either
Some minor fettling required on the bodywork as its looking a bit tired in places.
So tell me what I need to know, things to look out for & pre emptive things I should be doing. She's on 150k with a fairly good history & a recent cambelt change.
Estimates on how long it'll be before it breaks down please

It'l be fine, it won't breakdown they 2.4 lump is pretty good. slight niggles which might cause a problem would be a battery earth lead which is just a tad too short to be reliable. Other than that watch for suspension bushes failing causing creaks and rattles they are consumable items on 156's.
Still a lovely car though and I bet it was a bargain too.

cpt did you consider the 2 litre or 3.2 v6? just wondered why you chose the diesel to scratch and Alfa itch ?
I did, but this came up for bargainous quantities of beer tokens, it sounds quite nice for a diesel being a 5 pot & quite prefer diesels for everyday smoking about. wrinx said:

Never realised that! So my 51 plate is 140bhp and not the 136bhp. Note sure whether I would notice the difference anyway?

OP : yours does look lovely, hope you enjoy it. Mine is a SW and the biggest problems (expense) have been suspension components needing attention. Otherwise it has been a reliable purchase. Never let me down. Just have an airbag light on at the moment, rear wiper motor failure (won't be an issue for you!).

Is it definitely dead or did it become slower and then stop?
If the latter it can be made to live again.

Happened a while ago - so old motor is now long gone. TBH, in my typical fashion I took the motor apart and couldn't get all the bits back together again so bought another instead! (typical way of problem solving for me!!)If the latter it can be made to live again.

Thanks
