Boot Space - Spider (916)
Discussion
Been thinking about soft top for a bit of weekend fun, had decided that a 916 spider was good prospect ( always liked the look of them) but mentioned to a colleague and he thought the boot was quite small for the size of car. I have spotted one for sale which is about 30 miles away but for me it is essential that the boot will take a set of golf clubs. Could arrange to see the car but don't really want to waste anybodies time if the car isn't going to work for me.
Tried to find boot dimensions / brochure online but haven't managed to find anything- although did spot a few posts which seem to indicate you can only store the clubs in the hood recess - which then stop you lowering the hood - so would defeat the object of getting one !
Does anybody know if there are any brochures online / anywhere that quotes the boot dimensions?

I've got a 916 spider. I'll get the tape measure out tonight to give you something more specific, but for now:
- a set of golf clubs will easily fit in a spider boot, provided you take the space saver tyre out. (I keep a can of tyre weld handy).
- depending on how big your bag is, you might just be able to squeeze the clubs in. The space saver intrudes about 5" into the boot and therefore narrows the breadth considerably.
- with the space saver out, I can pack 2 soft and squishy bags of approx 80 litres capacity into the boot and still have room for odds and sods squeezed in around them. There's also a rear luggage compartment with a lock behind the seats, which is a good 100 litres capacity but will only take squish and flexible items as it's only about 15" wide.
- In summer this year, I took a tent, double airbed, pump, empty water carrier, 2 x camping chairs, stove, pans, coolbag + plates, cutlery, glasses, mugs etc, 2 x sleeping bags, food and booze and 2 x large bags in there plus a suit carrier full of rig for a wedding. Like all convertibles, it's surprising what you can fit in if you try.
- approx dimensions of boot - 2 foot wide, 5 foot long, 3 foot deep. A bit bigger than my old Mk1 MR2, but not by much. As said, I'll take the tape measure out tonight or have a look in the guidebook.

Thanks for quick responses, not to worried about having to replace the space saver with a can of tyre weld, most journeys will be fairly local and in the event serious damage to a tyre there is always the RAC!
Alfa Pint - thanks for offering to measure the boot - the dimensions would be really useful, if they look good then I guess the next move is to have a read of any buyers guides and have a couple of test drives when I can also try the clubs for size.

Need to try and view a couple of examples over the weekend - most promising is a 2001 twinspark which on paper looks a nice example
