Alfa 166 Xenon Headlight problem

Hi

You're my last hope.
I have an Alfa 166 with Xenon headlights which are supposedly self aiming so why will mine only adjust properly for height but not align to right or left.
My dealer suggests that it is the headlights themselves that need replacing but at a cost of over £500 each I'm loathe to authorise replacement.
If anyone has heard of anything similar please let me know

This sounds a bit odd to me (knowing nothing about it!). I'd be prepared to accept that the headlights could correctly adjust up & down depending on load in the car, but how on earth would they be expected to know where the "right" place to aim left to right is?

I thought they only went up and down?
