So, in September we plan to take part in the rally down to Venice.

The car has to be over 20 years old or purchase for under £333, if over 20 years old then we only want to spend £500.

We have rejected old BMWs, Merc, Jags and 924s in favour of an Alfa, what could be better suited for this 2,000 mile trip?

So, thinking early 147s. Is it possible to get something in budget?

Over twenty years old...you'll struggle to find a 147 that old, they were introduced in 2000.

For that age you're looking at 164, 33, 155 (just), 75 etc.

It doesn't need to be over 20 years old if under 333 pounds. Also looking at 145 and 146s.

You would be better looking at a 164 imho

164 or 155 Twin Spark (think 155 came out in 92 but could have been 93 in UK) with the chain driven engine - the 164 is particularly well built and capable of big miles. 75 TS could be OK but as they are more sought after they are more expensive, also not as well built or as comfy as 164.

Just re-read your post, you would struggle to get a roadworthy 147 for under £333, maybe an early CAT D car would fall this low or one with panel damage that you could live with.

ok thanks all for the advice, I'll amend my search accordingly. I always liked 33s as a child.

A usable 33 will be very hard to find for that money, or in fact at any money!

I would have thought a 146 would be your best bet for getting a reasonable car within budget.
It sounds like a great adventure! smile

You'll still sturggle with 147s, as posted above.

I think a 155, 145 or 156 are your only options...you might just get an early 156.

The rest are too hard to find, too old or too valuable.

Highly recommended a 75 with twin cam engine (Nord-Engine)and carbs.
Mine runs and runs and runs, the engine is perfect and the driving performance is great (transaxle)
Search for a good one with Hardy-discs done, than you'll never have a problem with that distance.

My mate picked up a 1999 V-reg 156 1.8TS Saloon (150k miles) for £250 from an auction - i know, i was dubious too! - but i hate to admit it, it's actually quite good. Only has 4 months MOT and 1 months Tax mind you, but very good overall!
