One of these has popped up locally and sparked my interest.

Supposedly is chipped, running 260bhp and has a 100bhp NOS kit fitted....... Am I looking at a whole butt-load of hassle and expense? rofl

It would be interesting to find out how the owner allegedly took a 175bhp N/A engine to 260bhp - must have cost a fortune

The 2.4 lump is basically strong though, but it would probably take forced induction to get it to 260bhp

Without knowing the history of the particular engine putting NOS on an already modified engine is a very high risk strategy.

A bloody big bang is the most likely outcome.

It might be fun initially. But not for long, IMO.

That'll be 260bhp WITH the NOS...unless he's spent the best part of 10 grand on the engine of course...or turbo'd it.

FWD... No LSD and I think all Abarth Stilo's were Selespeed... Hmmmmmm....

Oh and to add... The NOS kit will be taking it to the 260bhp - As others have pointed out, no way that power will be had with forced induction of some sort - or a vast wad of money!

If the price is right (ie, less than a standard mint Stilo Abarth of same year and mileage) then I would go for it if you like it..

Supposedly these engines are reasonably weak on the crank side of things, I would read up a lot before going to buy something like this.

There have been quite a few 2.4L conversion put in Fiat Coupe Turbo's using the bottom end from these, so I don't think they are that fragile.

Later abarths could be had as a manual and I think the Schumacher special had a lsd.

The crank is VERY strong

As mentioned above, a few Coupe owners have used the crank to make a 2.4l version of the 20vt. The LOWEST power one I've heard of is 440bhp, with several above 500 and one at over 600

I'd say the crank in this NOS'd Stilo is strong enough to handle 260bhp....

Did not know that! But he has not said what model or year - so am guessing anyway really!

Just for a bit of balance, I owned a Bravo HGT 147 and ran a '75' NOS kit on it, it was remapped, with a cat back SS system and a vortex air filter, the no n2o rolling road had it at 166 BHP, an on gas it was showing 214 BHP, the nozzle widths for the NOS kits are just an estimation and require serious maps to achieve in real terms. This reeks of 170 initial BHP + nitrous kit, yeah it's 260 mBHP mate nailed on! stick it on some rollers and see if it has been properly mapped.
That said, the 5 pot is capable of taking that power and the crank is the same unit that takes silly power.
