What's the real economy for the 1.9jtdm 159?
Discussion
I'm seriously close to getting one, I do about 3000 miles a month so economy matters, but so does having a car that puts a smile on your face. Just wondered if anyone can report their experiences with these, my drive to work is 98 miles (one way) on virtually all motorway or dual carriageway, cruising at 80.
I've read that I can expect mid to high 40s, is this correct for this type of journey?

I got my 159 1.9 saloon about 3 months ago, swapped out of a V50 2.0D. The 159 is less economical but not bad at all. I struggle to get 40mpg on my commute which 1/3rd town, 1/3rd country lane, 1/3rd A-road.
On a motorway I sit at 70 and can get 47-48mpg but no more. Expect mid to low 40s for 80mph. Massive fuel tank means 550 miles between fill ups, and probably 700 miles of non-stop motorway driving.
Cost effective way to get economy improved is by taking it to Angel Tuning, getting the DPF and EGR valve bypassed (both problematic) and remapped to 195bhp at the same time. Should boost it to over 50mpg. £430 all in - bargain and guaranteed to save you money in the long run. Getting mine done as soon as I can get the cash together.

I ran a 159 Lusso up to 110k miles.
Lovely car. Not the most dynamic, but very comfortable, elegant and reliable.
On a 70mph cruise control run it would nudge 50mpg. I could get more than this if I 'hypermiled', but in mixed urban, A road driving it was a consistent 45mpg car.
I use Goodyear EfficientGrip tyres that improved economy by a couple of mpgs.
I had my remapped by Angel...but it screwed up the dpf and constantly went into limphome mode and I asked them to return it to standard after a week. It was all OK after that.
