Afternoon,

I am looking into the running costs of an Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 Petrol.

I need this motivation for my second car. I have quotes on certain aspects and I am trying to project the real life running costs.

Flag up anything you disagree with

Purchasing cost: £7,000
Warranty: £400.00
Fuel: £2,350 per year (Based on 10,000 miles)
Insurance: £1,000
Servicing: £300.00 per year
Tyres: £1,000
Tax: £235.00 per year

Total: £12,285 for initial purchasing cost and first year running costs. Chances are that the car will come with tax, MOT and insurance.

Please note, I have purposely made these figures the WORST case scenario.

If I expect these figures, I hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.

Opinions?

Haha! Yer. I get your point but I don't have a bottomless pit.

I just love these cars. Everything about them.

Just not sure on the 3.2 or the 2.2 ...

Any idea on what my warranty wouldn't cover?

Your figures don't take in to account something going wrong maintenance wise.

Profile says you're in Dorset so we are lucky to have Autolusso Bournemouth for quality independent servicing. Website gives some good sample service and maintenance costs and they're well worth dropping into for a chat, http://www.alfamotive.co.uk/

Very true turbonutter.

Thanks for the link pal about the servicing outfit in Bournemouth. I live in Bournemouth!!!

I am going to wonder down to Meridien Milano soon to have a " look " ...

I wont buy from them as I really dislike their reputation. And I couldnt afford to splash £12,000 + on one.

2.2 is meant to be sweeter handling wise.

Thats the one id go for given the numbers on the V6 arent very impressive.

I'd go for a 2.2 with a remap, bmc filter and if it's your taste a sports exhaust.

My insurance on a 2.2 was £890.00 per year.

Is that reasonable for me (21 years old)

Clean as a whistle license.

Not really a speeder to be honest.

159Ti with a 2.2 was a good car and I loved mine. Really regretted not getting the V6 Q4 variant so parted with it for a V6 Brera after 2 years & lots of mods.

Given the small difference in economy, V6 every time but they are rare!

If you've posted a thread complaining about 29p per mile on a Corsa, I'm not sure a 159 3.2 V6 will be up your street. In all seriousness though, I wouldn't let the engine choice bother you, just buy on condition and history. The GM V6 can't hold a candle to the old Alfa V6, so don't let that influence you too much.

Lol. Very observant robsco.

I was surprised on the running costs of the Corsa.

The Alfa would be something I would cherish, so it's worth the money.

Unlike the Corsa which is just something to get me from A - B.

I do like it though.

If you're going to cherish it and not use it regularly, all the more reason to get the V6...

Although he's right, the GM V6 isn't an Alfa engine and lacks the magic of the old Busso V6.

If it's to be a cherished second car, why something as sensible as a 159, V6 or otherwise?

V6's are rare so quite hard to find perfect colours and specs.

And the reason it has to be "sensible" is because of my insurance.

I am only 21.

Ok it's a 156 but it's on your doorstep. And if you buy it then it stops me from being tempted.

This is a great shout, proper Alfa engine smile

Worth cherishing too. You might not find insurance too bad if you go for a multi-car quote? My insurance was reasonable at 24 for some interesting stuff thanks to multi-car thumbup
