Alloy sizes for Fiat 500
Discussion
Hey there!
Ive got a fiat 500 1.2 pop, the previous owner put some 17' wheels on. Ive noticed the speedo is slightly out, showing the car as going a bit faster than it really is and ive also noticed that the car is dead easy to kangaroo a low speeds, although ive learnt to control this. Is the last issue because of the wheels, or is that normal?? And if so are there any other issues i should be aware of? I read on a website somewhere that you shouldnt put wheels bigger than 16' on a small engined 500.
Cheers!

On the grande punto the 1.2 gearbox does not like the additional weight of the 17" wheels and there are a few mentions of blown/destoryed gearboxes on there. I will mention they where probably not treated all to well.Ive got a fiat 500 1.2 pop, the previous owner put some 17' wheels on. I would expect the 1.2 500 box to be the same box and engine, worth considering. The speedo will read the same as the 15" wheels if the correct profile tyres have been used and the circumferance has remained the same. if it has increased or decreased it will be out

Interesting point, ive not heard of that one before, the gear changes arent always that smooth - a possible early warning sign of what your referring to? Would the custom alloys not weigh less than the standard steel ones that came with it originally tho?I would expect the 1.2 500 box to be the same box and engine, worth considering.
