I appreciate you will need lots more detail but a friend with a Alfa 156 (other details not known) regrettably fell asleep at the wheel. Came to, swerved, lost it up a bank, into some road signs and then rolled it twice. The roll was front end over not onto it's side!
He came out without a scratch! Exceedingly lucky however you can imagine the state of the car.
All that is left of value is the engine. By all acounts it was a brand new engine fitted to it, has all the receipts etc that demonstrate this and the fact that it has only done very limited miles since fitting. I believe it is less than 5000 miles but need to check.
He has a recovery charge on the vehicle to pay and can, if he wishes remove the engine for resale.
Excuse my ignorance, and i know it may depend on what engine it is, but is it worth it?

Very roughly I reckon it wuld cost £100-£150 to liberate the engine. If the engine cut out when the car crashed (due to the inertia fuel cut off operating), then I suppose that the engine could be worth a few hundred pounds- say £500. However, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Also, an autobreaker is able to offer a warranty, but would your friend? Realistically there is only about £100 profit in it.
I would ask the recovery agent for their advice. The advice should be ok as long as one of the mechanics doesn't have an Alfa needing an engine...sorry for the bad news.
