Alfa GT buying advice

Hey, going to see a manual 2006 Alfa GT 1.9JTDM tomorrow. 85k miles on the clock and wanted a little advice on what to look out for, any known problems, what needs to have been serviced/replaced etc?
Also whats the real world mpg - driven sensibly?

Should have had a timing belt, tensioners and water pump.

Having had a 156 I'd be listening for creaks and groans from the wishbones and knocks from worn suspension bushes.

Check the sills for jacking damage. Common! Check the underseal for condition. The underside isn't always as good as the topside. Also check around the wheelarch edges for paint condition.
Check the wheels for straightness and the tyres for wear, make sure you see the inside edges.

I've had mine a couple of weeks now and i'd say look out for a heavy clutch, can be a common problem on the JTD's from what I gather and my ones got it. Head over to Alfaowner for a buying guide. was helpful when I was looking for advice.

You'll enjoy it when you buy it, glad I went for one!

As for MPG I got about 600miles from a tank but not worked out my MPG yet.

Wishbones, Wishbones and more wishbones.

If they knock they are shot if they creak then they are either on there way or need lubing.

All things that went wrong in my 18 months of ownership where I went from 34,000 miles to 58,000 miles

Starter Motor
Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch Slave Cylinder
4x Glow Plugs
2 x Front upper wishbones
2x drop links
Fuel Filter split
Lower turbo hose

Lesser things that annoyed be but never got done were leaking window seals if the car was level or parked on a hill front at its highest.
Creaking Clutch pedal - this was resolved when the master cylinder was changed.
Wheels are made of cheese, just run over a small pot hole and they will be shot!
Sidelight bulbs go every 6 weeks
Parking sensors never worked

Ok so that looks bad - and ultimately it drove me to sell the thing but god I miss it. Quite possibly the best looking modern sub 5k car money can buy!

Depending where in the south you are you might want to speak with autolusso bournemouth, I'm sure they'd do an inspection too. And I have a similar age GT that's in good shape if you want to see what a decent one should feel like.

I would add that my most common problem has been bushes but the roads round here are damn awful.
Very enjoyable car though, I think a future classic, doubt I'll ever sell mine (unless I bite the bullet and get a 3.2!)

I am also looking at these, they do seem to be great value at the moment.

Slightly worried about the pothole surviveability as my route is pretty rough. Wheels ? Really - are they easy to replace with something sturdier (tele dials !)

I have the 16s that are the straight multi spokes that some GTAs have. In my experience they have been ok, guess they may be a bit tougher than the larger and more desirable wheels?

I was looking at these (and mazda RX8) on the 'trader last night, they do seem good value, does anyone know if you can fit a tow hitch on them?
