Hello,

I love the Alfa 156 and used to own a 2.5V6 which was great.

I am looking to buy a nicer runabout and have been seriously thinking of a 156 1.6 due to wanting the best MPG possible.

However, they are quite rare where as the 1.8 are plentiful. I would like to know peoples opinions on the difference re MPG.

How many MPG can you get from a 1.8? I am looking for at least mid 30's on a 20mile commute.

I have seen a 1.8 that I might go and look at today smile.

Beautiful cars!

I get mid 30's (35/36) on my 22 mile, A and B road commute from my 2.0. So i imagine a 1.8 can only be slightly better!

There is nothing in it between the 1.6 and 1.8.

If you are doing motorway miles go for the 1.8 the 1.6 has to be revved quite a bit...

I had a 1.6 147 as a courtesy car once and it felt like it could barely move (coming from a 156 2.4) so I'd say go for the 1.8 too - you'll end up thrashing the 1.6 so I bet there will be hardly any difference in real driving.

Hi,
Depending on age of the car, the tax band changes. My 1.8 is £275 a year, the 1.6 in the band below. Mpg In mine is 37 normally, I'm mostly on the M4 though.
