2005 156 2.4 20v EGR blanking

OK, so I have symptoms of a sticky EGR, I've taken it off and cleaned but it's still playing up, the EML has come on.

Now, I'm considering blanking off at the exhaust extension side. Are there any downsides to this? Will the exhaust extension soot/block up if it can't flow? Will the EML stay cleared if reset? MOT emissions etc.

Any help appreciated.

Hi.

Not had experience of the larger engine; but my 1.9 16V jtd suffered not a jot when the EGR was blanked off. If anything there is less in the way of smoke than before. Just make sure you do ALL the bolts back up again...
