Hello all.

Seriously considering doing the above. The OHs GTV has been replaced with an Aygo as she now has a 65 mile daily commute. I was planning on selling the Alfa, however on a good day it's probably only worth £800-900 and it has been a great (reliable and fun) car for the last 18 months.

I've been toying with the idea of a track car for a while and now heading home after a weekend at Pembury Circuit has sealed the deal. So my question is, does the GTV make a good track car? Has anyone done it with the 2 litre? Or am I better selling and getting a clio 172 or E36 328? Which was my original thought.

Quite fancy the idea of tracking it TBH. If nothing else it will look good amongst all the Saxo's.

Yes, mate of mine bought one for £400 a couple of years back and loves it. Not as fast as it looks because it's quite heavy for the power but good fun. This is me driving it as Combe last year.

Do it!

Did wonder how they managed to make it so heavy. The plan is (potentially) to take it off the road and strip it out as much as possible, must be able to shed a couple of hundred kilos.

There's the obvious losing the back seats but if you are nifty with fibreglass you could make a replica bonnet for about 1/3 of the weight of the original.

As there would be no intention to put it back on the road I was thinking I could strip literally everything out of the interior, just need a OMP wheel, fibreglass seat and a couple of gauges. Replace the glass with Perspex, get rid of the heater, aircon and other ancillaries. There must be 200kg atleast. I can feel a project coming on.

Well made a start on stripping the Alfa yesterday, its always good fun dismantling and nice when there's no pressure if rip or brake something. It would be nice to have weighed everything but I'm just not that organised. There was one full jeep load of bits I took to the tip and a spare room with collecting the saleable bits.

Plenty more weight to remove. Going to tackle the sound deadening, heater matrix, A/C and redundant wiring tomorrow then hopefully Blyton Park on the 31st.

that's the one thing that I would keep. Great track days tend to be hot days and wearing a helmet doesn't help.

As promised a few pictures of the Alfa

Can't wait to get it on track, think it will surprise a few of the big boys.

Another hour spent on the engine bay today. Got the intake and air box removed and replaced with a K&N along with a few bits and bobs I had laying around. Should help with the top end.

I thought about doing this to my old one, but in the end sold it and bought an Elise instead. It was great fun around the Ring though, if a little underpowered.

Jury's out, as a yoof I covered 10's of thousands of miles with oiled filters and didn't have a problem. I'll take my chances for a few hundred on track.

This was my gf car and it used to feel tragically slow when swapping between my Subaru. However I'm hoping for good things after 3 trips to the tip full of Alfa and ebaying the valuable bits.

Indeed, anyone with some actual decent proof of this happening? If the oil did somehow come off, how would that affect a resistor? Presumably there's a significant amount of pressure in play to suck the oil from the filter, so I hardly think it would sit on the resistor for very long either...

I'm sure someone knows a mate who heard on the internet that it happens loads though?

Progress looks good, did you weigh how much you took off?
