Alfa 159 Purchase Advice
Discussion
So I'm selling my Audi A6 V6 Avant which has been impeccable & would like something a bit different next as a family hack. Always promised myself an Alfa, so I would like some advice on purchasing a 159 prob estate having never owned an Alfa before or prob a Diesel as a private purchase.
Clearly i would prefer a petrol but these are as rare as hens teeth so it would be a 2.0 or 2.4 Derv around 3 years old. So what should i be looking for assuming the quality has vastly improved on the 156 era?
Do they handle, are the diesels decent performers, reliability levels, is the estate useable or aesthetic only, electrical woes, servicing, spring/damper life? Not too bad with the spanners myself but who can service these eg Fiat delaers/ independents around Staff/Midlands?
Any advise appreciated.

Take the plunge you might be surprised. Alfas seem to get under your skin and certainly have a different feel than the German stuff.
As for reliability, I think they're ok but get onto 156.net (they have a vibrant 159 forum too) to find out about their foibles. Personally I think they look the dogs danglies but that's just my opinion
I have run 3 Alfas so far but haven't got as far as a 159 yet.

Judging by the silence i take it 159's are rubbish - thanks for the warning - less said more gained.......
If you took the time to do a little research you would find there has been a lot of discussion about the merits of the 159. Instead you seemingly throw your toys out of the pram and draw a ludicrous conclusion, very strange.Try the 159 forum on www.alfaowner.com/forum . It's the most active Alfa forum on the net and this topic has been discussed numerous times. FWIW, I have a 2.2 petrol with 106K on the clock and it has been excellent. I know the diesels, like most other makes, can have DPF and EGR issues, so your best bet is to try the above as part of your research. All the best with your search.
