A pal of mine had one of these back in the '90s he liked it pretty well - the red "sedicivalvole" on the tailgate was the highlight for me

I like that a lot. getmecoat

If it was local there may have be a beer-fuelled eBay misdemeanour performed.

Yes.

Yes I have driven one.

Better than a Golf GTi in every respect but the VW fanboys won't listen because of something called "residuals".

Their loss.

Oh yes I've driven one:

so much fun, tunnels are an excuse to drop a gear or two and giggle like a loon!

Handles very well, digs deep for acceleration, but is brutal on the brakes, she has a big ass to slow down.

I am liking the 3 door much more. All those windows at the back look too fussy and badly thought out.

I thought the 3 door looked a bit low in the pics. I just presumed jaibk was sturdily built.

One of my favorite cars. Bought one after a string of Alfa 33s and absolutely loved it. It was a K reg 5dr in Red with Recaros, Sunroof and Momo Wheel. The twin cam screamed, it handled beautifully on it's Michelin Pilot SXs, loved all the instruments with red needles and the red leather patches on the steering wheel. The only downsides were the rubber ball gearknob and the diamond cut alloys which corroded at the first sight of salt. The 3dr was a lesser car, was down by approx 6bhp and it lost the detail touches inside.

I replaced mine with a 145 Cloverleaf but in all honesty I preferred the Tipo but the Alfa had the badge and the looks. If I had to buy one now as part of a collection it would be the Tipo, very rare car.

My family begs to differ! as does the fly weight Tippex, Uno Turbo....that urgent buzz blunted by the sheer mass she has to cart about

How did you get it to 260bhp?

I'll take a stab at some sort of Integrale/Thema Turbo engine finding its way in there.

Good looking car.

My guess would be the 16VT lump out of a Fiat Coupe (which is essentially just a Tipo in a frock)

My understanding is that the Tipo 16V was basically the same engine as the Alfa 155 2.0 16V and putting in a Fiat Coupe Lampredi 16V turbo from the Fiat Coupe/Lancia Delta Integrale would effectively turn it into a FWD Alfa 155Q4 or an almost Integrale as such.

You can get to around 260bhp quite easily with the 2.0 Turbo with a squadra or equivalent chip and not much else before you start messing around with manifolds, camshafts, etc.

Had a 3DR in Ming Red, one of the last on a 95 (N).
First came across them at auto italia at Brooklands, with a very nice girl driving.
Mine had an Ansa system on it and sounded the business, the best engine i think ive driven.
Also had great interior, with really nice supportive recaro seats.
I think mine was stock, but loved the cam on it and how smooth it was with the balancer shafts. After about 5K it felt like a low compression turbo on boost:0)

This was Fiat's first effort to lose the rust reputation, but mine still lost to the tin worm in the end. (Tipo's are Galvanised upto the door rub strips)

If you can find a good one you cant have much more fun this side of a prancing horse.
Issues to lookout for:

Oil consumption - Inherant with this engine, claimed upto 1l per 1000miles.
(1l per 600miles on the Intergrale)
Rust
Synchro weak - as on the Intergarale and expensive rebuild
Some spares maybe running out
Try and find as stock as you can: Only electrical gremlins I had were due to imobiliser installed by idiots. (Cut through the main harness and spliced it back together!!)
