From what i have seen of the spy-shots etc, the new 157 is just another facelift to the 156 in effect!
A bit disappointing really, i was hoping for something as striking as the design leap that was the 155 - 156 upgrade
Isn't it to be RWD though?
Ciao
Zak
*Edit*: No, it's going to be FWD or AWD.

Am due a new company car between now and June of next year .
Have been seriously considering a 156 2.4jtd veloce ...
Does anyone know when the 157 hits the showrooms , the engine options , and price indication ?
Cheers
Dram..
PS
Thought that the rear seats of the 156 was a bit tight for legroom for an adult ? ( my son and his mate are both touching 6' and we travel a 2/3 hour journey weekly to watch the footie...)

I think June might be a bit tight. I think LHD launch date is the Geneva show in March. Keep an eye on www.italiaspeed.com/ - tend to be more accurate and reliable than the anti-Alfa British press who are good at forecasting spangly new Alfas and then slating the company when they don't appear...
Rear leg room is not huge in the 156 as it is not a particularly big car. Optional front sports seats take up even more space.

Howdy,
In the new auto, motor und sport there is an article about a host of new alfas, the 157 will basically be replacing the 156 but it will be as big as a 166 which will not be replaced.. so in effect the 157 replaces the 166 (?!)
They go on about the new GM/Alfa engines and apperently the spider will get a 400 bhp plus twin turbo. (hello?)
Here's a pic, I hope the hotlink works.

So what's with this obsession with size? The Fiesta is now the size of the last generation Escort and the new Golf is the size and shape of a Transit van. The 156SW is the right size for me: I can't imagine that either the GT or the Brera offer as much space, and if I wanted something the size of a boat I'd have bought a Volvo.
I'm not saying Alfa shouldn't produce large cars, but what's wrong with keeping one in the range that might be too small for a family of four but is perfect for a single person or a couple who occasionally want to give people lifts and/or carry luggage?

For the length of car, the 156 has very poor rear legroom. This isn't normally a problem for us, but was highlighted when we were four-up on a driving holiday in Ireland.
Hopefully the 159 will address this. One thing I detest about most other manufacturers is the "high-roof" styling in order to achieve decent legroom. Give me the slinky looks (and poor space) of an Alfa any day!
