Alfa 2.4 JTDM Longevity

Hi all, bit of advise please. Looking at 159 Sports wagons. Specifically 2.4. A few for salee with 90-100k miles. I have seen posts from people with 160k + miles. So is the engine good for high miles if serviced correctly, would high miles be an issue? Prefer facelift and my budget is around £6000.

.The one i drove had been re mapped properly and had been serviced by "Veloces" who are also selling the car
they rate highly in the accident tests etc. The car was well screwed together. I have a 200k Volvo D5 so they tend to be well built , so a good comparison ! Alfa has a more sporty feel etc .
if well serviced many cars can hit 200k easily . Old and filters etc cost peanuts these days

Don't let high miles bother you - buy on history and condition
I work for Motormech in Birmingham (indy Italian car specialist) - we see a wide range of conditions come through the workshops - generally, the big-milers tend to run the sweetest. My own Alfa GT has over 180,000 on it. Its had a clutch and a turbo, but otherwise its pretty original.
Conversely, we were working this morning on a 159 with 50,000 miles on it and it ran really badly - properly choked up, due to only ever running short journeys
The 2.4 lump is reliable when looked after, and responds very well to an EGR delete and remap (250bhp is common from the 20v variants)
However, its a fairly heavy lump, so the front tyres and suspension tends to take a beating on the 159 and Brera/Spider models (less so on the 156)
Its also not particularly economical, although a remap will get it to high 40s, low 50s. Used purely around town, it can return low 30s
As far as diesels go, its a pretty characterful alternative to the usual 4-pot stuff - quite possibly one of the best-sounding oil-burners out there, especially with some exhaust mods

£6999? Grey silver , black interior In some ways good...but also not to the quality i would expect for the price. Interior drivers centre arm rest looked down to the bone. Rear clear light glass. cracked etc. things i would expect a dealer like this to not even be asked to sort out!
Car drove well . it was sold by them and has had some work done. bigger brakes by the looks of it and a in house remap. DPF removed etc
Just don't see it been worth a coffee short of £7k in that condition.

I would expect to buy that car in the same condition private for around £5200, if that .
But will keep a eye out to see if they get any other 159's in .
