Morning all,
I have been deliberating on changing the family car for some time now, currently have a CMax and although it doesn't set the world on fire it does all it is asked of, Camping, Kids, dogs and the once/twice weekly visit to the office (150 mile round trip!). I have been looking at changing for sometime and as we all know when the "itch" gets strong it really is something you cannot ignore.
Budget is about £10k and I have considered most things German but always come back to the 159 Sportwagon because it is so beautiful. Never owned an Alfa before and have come across this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...
Its not far from me and is in the right colour, I believe its the right engine to have and the mileage isn't bad....I will possibly arrange a test drive next week but would welcome any info/advice/tips to help me along the way.
Thanks
RL

I got the old man to have a white 2.0jtdm ti saloon a couple of years ago and it's value has hardly dropped. Petty much everywhere he goes he has the best looking car and it's not been any trouble at all.
It's a great engine, he just needs his remapping to improve it further. Shame someone can't put the v6 out my gt into one, them it would be perfect.

I have the 2.4 Diesel 5 cylinder auto estate which I've had mapped as well, cracking car. Quick and stunning to look at to love it to bits but have alas have had my head turned by a reasonably cheap business lease on a new M135i
It's up for sale on autotrader and is going to be for sale on here next week.

My Detective skills are rubbish!!! Nice car but I want to move out of an Auto I'm afraid. Thanks for the input though. Any tips/advice on what to look out for when buying?
Haha yeah mines the Auto with the private plate, it's a rare beast I don't think I'll many problems selling (finds some wood quickly) head over to alfaowners on the inter web there's a wealth of knowledge over there. As long as there serviced and looked after there pretty good to be honest, the main thing to look out for is cambelt/water pump and so I have read they can be real tyre munchers if the alignment is not set up right. As far as I am aware they are based on a vauxhall anyway.
Good luck hunting they are great looking cars and be prepared for everyone to ask you when you get one, has it gone wrong yet?
I wouldn't be getting rid of mine but a M135 at 250 a month plus vat was to good to say no to!!!!!
Thumbs up from me too, check it is the 170hp version, some of the 2.0 are advertised as the 170 but they are actually the 138hp version, check the sticker on the door pillar.
Turn the steering lock to lock, make sure there is no groaning from pump or bubbling of pas fluid from the res.
Check the heated seats work, and the rear wiper, these sometimes fail.
Also make sure the front wipers are not catching the bonnet, but its a very easy fix.
Front inside tyre wear is the most common issue, its usually resolved by setting the toe to 0 or fitting camber adjusting wishbone bushes.
I have a lusso spec in this colour, its really nice especially when the sun is on it.
