Is it possible to break the oil seal on the gearbox when changing the clutch to the extent that the gearbox drops all its oil?

driveshaft oil seal or gearbox input shaft oil seal?

I'm guessing you'd have to be very unlucky or exceptionally clumsy to damage the box input shaft seal, but a hurried job re-fitting the driveshafts might damage the seal

Its not my car but id guess gearbox input shaft as the guy had a new clutch fitted about 2 weeks ago, car had been making worse and worse whining noises, and when the clutch bell housing was taken off it was full of oil. The guys had the work done now, he's only paid for parts (basically a reconditioned gearbox) the garage covered the labour, replacement of the clutch plate which they said would be covered under warranty etc

I'm happy with the outcome for the guy considering the age of the car and he seems happy too, apart from the fact its money he didn't have to spend to fix his car, particularly at this time of year.

I recommended the garage to him, so I had a bit of a vested interest in seeing how this got resolved.

The guy always seems to have bad luck

Thanks for the reply
