Newbie needing advice
Discussion
Hi All,
Newbie to the forum here and I need a bit of advice. I've always wanted an Alfa Romeo GT I'm going to view one on Sunday. It's a 2006 JTDM done 110,000 miles and is owned by an Alfa Romeo club owner so it's mint, I'm just worried reliability wise, few people have said be careful some have said it's a solid engine as it's a diesel and to be wary of DPF issues, are they a good buy?

No DPF in the GT so nothing to worry about there.
The 1.9 engine is great. Very reliable but watch out for turbo hoses with holes as the power will be well down.
Listen for any suspension creaks and knocks. Wishbones are needed on these cars reasonably often (every couple of years mileage depending)
Reliability is not an issue with this car.

As Superleg says, they really are pretty reliable.
A check for excessive black smoke (accelerate hard and look in the mirror) might be a sign there is an air-leak with the turbo hoses.
I would check for rust on the underbody too. Also, its pretty easy for a garage to damage the sills when jacking, also leading to rust issues.
Two members of my family ran these for many years with no serious issues.

Engine wise the JTDm is probably the most bomb-proof option on the GT, so not a bad pick, check the EGR valve if power is a bit down/excessive black smoke is produced. (on earlier JTD engines these could be blanked off, not sure about the GT JTDm though)
Car wise the GT is a coupe 147/156, so underbody rust and front upper wishbones are the main niggles, but on the plus side, it is a very sweet handling machine.
