Abarth 500 MTA gearbox

I do a fair amount of stop start driving and have had numerous automatics in the past, albeit generally on bigger, diesel engined cars.
I'm considering one of these as a runabout but none of the reviews I've read rate the 'box particularly well.
Has anyone any experience of what these are like day to day? It would normally be used for short journeys (10 miles or less) on 30/40mph roads.
