I have a 2010 500 Essesse which I absolutely love, but I bought it on looks rather than driving pleasure (it has nicer wheels and sits a bit lower than a standard one, which I liked.)

I was well aware when buying it that the considered opinion is that the essesse suspension (I have one with the different shocks/springs front and rear, as opposed to the later ones which just replaced the rear) TOTALLY buggers up the ride, but it’s now becoming unbearable.

It hops and skips all over the place on my route to work (country lanes and residential streets- so nothing in the greatest state of repair) and unless you find a marble smooth road (where it works brilliantly to be fair) its so jarring to be a distraction.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of aftermarket suspension for these and any recommendations? Unfortunately I bought it 2nd hand so don’t have the originals to go back on.

I’d like a less rock hard ride and some compliance over bumps, but quite like the fact it corners so flat and is very stable under braking (it doesn’t pitch much.)

A friend of mine lowers all his cars and fits coilovers. He says they improve the compliance of the suspension while keeping the height he prefers. Seems too good to be true but he swears by it !
