Tried a standard Abarth last year. With the missus having had a 500 in the past I knew a lot already. However, I liked the Abarth more than I expected. The only thing that stopped me buying it was it lacked that little bit of punch at the top end. Secretly I was hoping for some VTEC oomph, but found there really wasn’t much point in taking it to the red line. Still love everything else about them though and was thinking the Comp version might be the answer. Anyone driven them both and care to comment on the differences?

Not an owner therefore wouldn’t be able to advise but, if it helps, I’ve been considering a cheaper standard A500 with a map instead of a more expensive 595.

The only thing that holder cars don’t have glove box which I find annoying

When you say standard Abarth do you know what version you drove? There’s a 135bhp model, 160bhp model and the newer comps are 180bhp.

Here’s my thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... there’s quite a few on PH these days so I’m sure we’ll be able to answer any questions you may have.

It was the 135bhp on standard wheels. Nice, just lacking that last bit of something special.

I'm loving my 165bhp 595 Turismo, no regrets on trading my Mk7 golf GTI with performance pack for it. Its like a modern classic mini.

I have a 180 with the performance pack.

There’s a lot of torque from c2300 revs in sport mode & it’ll rev out to 6k + revs before the power tails off.

It’s a bit nuts. Unhinged but in a good way. Raw & fun, yet perfectly able to do the daily trudge & comfort enough over 200+ mile journeys without taking a break.

The ride is firm but well damped under most conditions. The Sabelt seats are really great, even for my fat 5’11” arse, knackered back & arthritic frame.

It’s really fun smile

Is there much any difference in comfort for those who have got standard cloth salbet seats Vs those clad in leather?

We found the standard seats little tight and not that cushioned. But the leather seemed better??

In the end my wife spec'd standard leather seats which look ok but not as snazzy as the race seats.... Decisions!

As an update we get our Comp tomorrow! A full 4 weeks ahead of when we were told!

Did the insurance last night expecting it not to be great but its under £350 for 2 drivers so happy with that.

It's the wife's car but I do wish we had gone for the seats and opted for a snazzer colour combo...

Hopefully you’ll enjoy it. Will have to pop a picture up. I’ve found people of all shapes and sizes have said the sabelts are comfortable although I’m led to believe people say they get more comfortable after a few hundred miles.

What colour have you gone for? I've decided to go for a comp next but I'll be going for the standard leather seats rather than the sabelts. I'd also like the C version.

Be interesting to see how you get on with it. Just had a a decent quote for leasing a new 595 Comp to replace my Focus ST which goes back in October and I'm really tempted to go for it. I don't need a big car and just want something fun to blast to work and back in.

I'm 6'4" so a little worried about the seating position though!

I'm 6 3 and fit fine. I have put a wheel extension in though which helped. They are a blast to drive. Reasonable for distance to. The most I've covered is 1000 miles in a week..

I’m 6’3” also and managed 2,000 miles in a week with no issues.

Will post pictures later, but needless to say the car is a brilliant little thing.

The steering wheel for me (all 5 ft 8) could do with being placed closer but the car is bolted together nicely and for feel / excitment it sits between the classic mini's i had whilst at uni and the Clio 182.

Quick question however.... its a MTA (auto) box, do i need to put the car into neutral before switching it off or can i leave it in drive (1) and then turn the key.

The car is old skool compared to my current i3.

I can fully recommend going to Abarth in Slough. Abb who dealt with us was fantastic and other than forgetting what he said about parking my wife has come away very happy with the purchase.

I have an Abarth dealer a few miles away so I'm heading down tomorrow afternoon to see if I can physically fit in one.

Doesn’t make any difference. When you restart the engine it’s always in neutral. Only time I use the neutral function is to preempt the warning beep if stuck in traffic (if you leave it in gear for a min or two and don’t move it beeps and goes into neutral automatically.)
