Back in about Feb/March my 159 2.4JTD suffered a massive vibration. Almost more than a vibration I suppose, more like a large circular oscillation left to right rather than front to back if that makes sense. It was diagnosed as a broken passenger side drive shaft.
A new one was installed at my local garage and all was well. For about a month. Then it happened again. Replaced under warranty and got another couple of months out of that one. Then it happened again. So it was decided to rule out that brand of driveshaft a different one would be sourced. Took about 6 weeks to get one. That was put in and all was good. For about 1000 miles. Then Tuesday this week it went again. I heard it go this time. I was in traffic doing about 30mph with no real load on the engine going straight, not turning.
Has anyone else had any issues with driveshafts? Is there anything my garage could have missed. They have checked engine mounts, alignment between gearbox and hub (I think) and all looks good. Mine is labelled as a 210bhp variant. I believe they possibly changed from 200bhp to the 210 in the 2008 model year which mine is. Could the driveshafts be different? That still doesn't rule out why the first one went which at the time I just assumed was "one of those things" as its a 10 year old car on 118000 miles. We've had it for nearly 3 years and put about 30000 of those on it with no other driveshaft issues. Its doing my head in now.
