AR Giulia QF : Exhaust baffles - settings etc
Discussion
Hi all
Does anyone know the specifics of how a 21 plate Giulia QF exhaust (standard) system is set up ? My understanding is that quiet mode is engaged for A & N modes all the time, it's fully "loud" mode in Race (except when warming up)......but what about dynamic ? It seems to get louder when you press on....say 3.5 - 4k revs ? Anyone know the specifics ?
Also, does anyone know if the fitment of the AHM exhaust flap control is an issue with longer term warranties and service packs ?

Exhaust works exactly as you've said, mainly quiet in A and N, loud above 3.5k rpm-ish in D, and mainly loud in Race.
Just bear in mind that in D the revs are usually kept quite high, so the valves will be open a lot of the time.
In regards to the AHM mod, I was told by an Alfa dealer (who shall remain nameless) that they're not an issue, but they couldn't sell a car with one on, and Alfa could frown on it should there be a warranty issue.
If you've got a good jack though, you could remove it in 10 mins before taking the car in and no one would know.
I had the AHM mod, and to be honest with the amount of time it's in loud in D, contrary to popular opinion ... I probably wouldn't bother.

I believe there was an update for any cars built after circa April 2019 whereby you can enable flaps open in D regardless of revs.
It's only pre April 19 builds where you're limited to flaps opening at 4k or so.
Alfa press release on it....

OK that's interesting......so how do you actually "enable" it ? Mines a '21 build. It's only pre April 19 builds where you're limited to flaps opening at 4k or so.

Ronnie great feedback from someone already tried it. Thanks.
Thought it was UK cars, but mine is an MY19 built before April so wouldn't have it anyway. The US cars have it for sure.
If you have it, you just enable it via one of the infotainment menus in car. If you can't find a setting for it in there though, you'll need a mod if you want the flaps to stay open whenever you want.

This is really useful feedback, thanks!Just bear in mind that in D the revs are usually kept quite high, so the valves will be open a lot of the time.

I would say the AHM mod is essential, the car is too quiet otherwise and the opening in D mode sounds very odd to me. I can’t see how it could be justified that this could cause a fault that would invalidate the warranty unless it was specifically related to the exhaust flap operation
I thought the AHM mod would be essential before I bought one.
But in reality, turns out I don't want a loud farty exhaust when just running errands around town or cruising down the motorway or commuting etc.
When you put into D mode and start to push on at all, the exhaust opens and it really adds to the excitement. It opens around 4k on the way up the revs but it stays open below 4k when the revs drop until you back off. So basically, it's pretty much open the whole time if you're pushing on, on a B road etc.
It's actually one of the main selling points for the car for me now. Love that it's a normal, practical car day to day, flies under the radar, but as soon as you want to have some fun you flick it into D mode, give it a bit more throttle input and the exhaust screams into life and suddenly it feels like a supercar!
