Thinking of buying my wife an Alfa Romeo.

Can anyone give me any advice on which model to go for. What to look out for. What to avoid.

The choice is between a 147 & the GTV. Possible Spider.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Depends what she wants out of it; the 147 and GTV/Spider really aren't directly comparible cars so you need to sort out what the end goal is before going down one route or the other.

There's lots of GTV/Spider knowledge on www.SportsAlfa.com (formerly gtvv6.com) but the buyers' guide is currently offline pending a re-write following the recent site revamp.

Next easy question is - does she need to carry any luggage?

grab er a 24v spider, there is no question

top down, massive growling engine, and its less likely to go wrong than a twinny

I tell a lie:

www.sportsalfa.com/buying.htm

It is being rewritten, though.

Thanks all

Typical women requirements.

Engine - yes
Seats - yes (but nice colour so long as she can get her mum in).
Interior - Nice clocks.
Year - 1901 - 2006
Service history - whats that?
Performance - Starts with turn of key - stops with turn of key (anticlockwise).
Fuel economy - Doesn't matter only I ever fill it up.
Colour - Oh the all important factor from a Fiesta to a Lambo. The choice will always be the poxy colour.

I had a 147 for a year and a half and really liked it. I changed it just under two years ago for an alfa GT and I love it. Buy her a silver GT with black leather seats!

Ok, but does it need to do long distances? Seat 4 adults? Carry a week's shopping? A wardrobe? Look devastatingly sexy parked up outside the tennis club?

If at all like my OH, get the 147... I went from a GTV to a 156 and the 156 is much easier to live with (for a woman) more space and in my case more reliable.

Has to be a GTV

In order of priority:-

A boot small enough to limit shopping trips,
Vanity mirror on driver side, when shes filled the back seats also and needs to make excuses!
