Can any one help me,,,,,,,,I have just seen a fab 147 with thr flappy padles and semi gear box, excelent condition but has done 95000 on a 02 plate, but it is £5000. What should i do, walk away or run and embrace it as being a bargin. I love it but it is an Alfa, and has an electronic gear box, are they good or am i asking for trouble??????????

If it's done the business-end of 100K in what, four years, then chances are it's a good 'un. Either that, or it's spent its life in 5th on the motorway. Either way, it can be argued that that kind of mileage will've ironed-out any problems, if indeed there were any at all.

That's not to say however that I'd buy one; echoing the others above the potential for problems is huge, so seek-out a regular stick-shift...

According to my local dealer the later the better, early ones were real grief
and he reckons once past the infant mortality bit they're fine. Get the very odd one that dies but otherwise OK.

You can get some very good deals on second hand 147's with that kind of mileage.
I tried to sell mine a month or so ago, Red Manual 2.0 TS lusso with 92k on the clock, FSH and absolute minter if I do say so myself!!
Ended up giving it to the girlf as I simply couldn't sell it for reasonable money (was looking for around the 4k mark but didn't get offered over 3.3k) and I refuse to part with it for silly money as it is such a good car. Agree with the comments here about most problems being ironed out at this age/mileage, but I would still want an extended warranty included at that price and personally I would go for the manual version as the flappy paddle takes a bit of the enjoyment out of driving a great car with a great engine.

I had a 51 plate 147 Selespeed Lusso. Got through 2 clutches in 18 months. I then found out when I p/x'd it that the one to avoid was the 147 Selespeed. Bad Gearbox/Clutch. My car had done only 11,000 miles and had FASH....You decide.
