Cheers 4 reply, pwig....
Bugger. How much dollar and wheres best. Can any reasonable garage do job? I`m in NW of England, btw. Had cam belt etc changed no more than 15k ago, didnt fit new variator tho. Last owner did it (not personally...). I have said part, just need to get it fitted, thought might be able to do it myself but evidently more involved.....

Well, strictly you don't need to, but seeing as they've got to come off to get at the variator, you'd be completely looney not to replace them with new parts whilst its in bits.

Find a local specialist to save ££s on the main dealer's labour rates.

I had a new cam & tensioner belt fitted to my 155TS 16v2.0 just under 2000 miles ago at 97000. The variator has now started to make a noise when cold. If I get the variator replaced can I refit the 2000 mile old cam belt or does it need a new one?

You could get away without. The benefit in changing -again- is piece of mind. I just bought another 155 which is like as your situation- belt and tensioner changed 2000 miles ago, so I just changed the variator.
