before i buy a 147

We have exactly that car, looks great inside & out, plus we now have the added advantage of getting to know the local AA recovery drivers on a first name basis.
When it works its fantastic, but my ten year old TVR is far more reliable.
Shame, the dealer has been useless too.
Get a good warranty, but dont imagine for a minute that it will cover everything you expect.
Sorry mate - dont wish to burst your bubble but please make sure you go into this with your eyes open.

I had one of the 1st one's in the UK from new
A nightmare from day 1, sold it back to Alfa after 6 months of endless problems
The dealers are the worst thing, very poor service, such a shame it has really put me off of Alfa's
Perhaps the the issues we had have now been ironed out
Its the best looking hatch by miles

Ours was a Y reg 1.6 manual with 17" super sport wheels
We moved from a Spyder which was also troublesome.
Main problems with the 147 were electrics / engine management & trim i.e. bits falling off
Would be interested to hear how reliable later versions have been particularly the 2.0 model
We swore we'd never touch an Alfa again, but 147's & GTV's are looking good value at current prices.

We are are on 147 no 2. Neither have let us down, but the quailty is not what it should be, and I agree about the dealer thing. Can only speak for my local outfit..
The above stated, we did buy no 2 so not all bad. Current 147 I really enjoy.
I bought a 2001 51 plate 2.0 Twin spark 147 Lusso. Looks georgeous, rear suspension gave way in February, 500 quid to fix, Cam belts need whanging at 40000 miles and the 17" supersport wheels with lowered suspension can be uncomfortable round town. The behaviour of the dealership was the worst costomer service I have ever experianced. Find yourself a reputable, friendly independent to care for it.
On the upside, wonderful fun to drive and look at, leather interiorall round e/w and climate control, brilliantly comfortable.
