I've been to a garage about an alfa 156 2.0 T.Spark. Its in beautiful condition. Only problem is its a 1999 T reg with 120,000 on the clock. Its got full service history though. The price is 2995 and they are prepared to give me 1900 for my r reg puegeot 106 1.5 diesel.

Am i getting a good deal?

It doesn't sound bad, especially taking the trade in allowance into account!

Check the service history for cambelt changes. It should have had an official one at 72,000. Ideally it will have had more. If it did have one at 72,000 it could do with having another one very soon, and it's about £300-400. Give Peak Alfa a ring if they aren't far from you. They come highly recommended.

Other than that just give it a good test and listen for clonks and bonks from the suspension and check the tyre treads are worn evenly right the way across. Don't just look at the outside of them.

Good luck!!

£1000 cost to you for a 156 in "beautiful condition"? Sounds good!

my 164 2.0 TS has 140k on the clock - the engine is still in really good shape.

check the wishbone and trailing arm bushes ,

and rear handbrake calipers (have been known to stick on some cars )

Yes - and you are prepared to keep up to it. They are cheap to buy, but not particularly cheap to run, but great cars when they are running well.

hi car.chic

i'm not so sure you're getting a bargain

i must say that 120k isn't a problem if all works and typical things that do go wrong with wear/tear/age have been done

the price of a 99 with high milage should be sub 2k tho

Ye sbut what would you expect for an R Reg Pug 106? £1900 for that has to be taken into account. The dealers making a grand. Seems a fair deal to me.

I bought a 99 v plate 2 litre with 70k on it for 3k with leather etc.. so 2999 for a t plate with that mileage sounds high.. locally there was a 99 t 156 2 litre with 99k on it for 2500, so i reckon 2200 would be about right..
