Does anyone have any comments about the new Brera?
I'm thinking of getting one but am put off by all the reliability issues with other alfas.
Reliability issues? I bought my 156 new in 2000. It has now done getting on for 90,000 miles. In this time the only major thing I have had to replace was the clutch at 54,000. It has never broken down, nothing has ever fallen off, it has started first turn of every key, has developed no rust at all and has been far cheaper to maintain than friends' BMWs and Audis.
I have got a 2004 156 T-spark with 36,000 miles and have to say that it has been pretty good. The variator needed doing but that was under warrenty and the petrol gauge went up the shoot, this was a recall. Other than that it starts first time every time and i actually really like the car. Also the best dealer is Medway Autos.
I would definately buy a late low millage alfa.

Depends on your definition of reliable - I have run a 156 since 1999, never been let down by either of the 2 cars I have had in that time (2.0 Tspark SP2, 2.5 Q system Sportwagon). Wish I could say the same for the 3 company Vauxhall's I was forced to use between 1995 and 1999. The Alfa 75 I had from 91 to 95 was completely reliable as well.
Now the Alfasud I had in 79......... Well my mate & I had 2 on the grounds that between the 2 of them we could normally get one going! Still loved it though.
Suggest that you test drive one and let your heart decide!

It's a stunning looking grand tourer with a fair turn of speed as a JTD or V6.
Heavy though and not a nimble sports car, but very comfortable, lovely cabin and well equipped. Thumbs up from me.

They are not Hondas (thankfully!!), but they're not as bad as everyone (who doesn't own one or has never driven one) makes out. My works cars include BMWs and VWs and they have been more unreliable than any of my Alfas - I'm on my 3rd now, and my wife has one too. Go on, take the plunge. By the way the dealer allocation is getting used up quickly so you may be looking at September delivery by now. These will always be a rare car - current sales slots are just two per month per dealer....

some of the Alfa dealerships being flaky.
Can't speak to the Brera, but my 8-year old GTV is holding out OK. Bits like the suspension and brakes are wearing out and needing replaced, obviously, but there's nothing to suggest it's fundamentally badly made. First impressions after a month are that my wife's new 147 seems alright too - I wouldn't say any better than alright, but it's basically an old car. It's no worse than the Megane she had previously, although that is maybe faint praise.
156s seem to be lasting alright, and the 159 feels like a step up from them in build quality (door shuts, finishing, etc), so I'd have no worries about the Brera.
