Hi,

I have a 02 156 1.8 TS and after returning from Le Mans the alarm stopped setting itself. By this I mean it no longer beeped and flashed its indicators at me when I pressed the button on the key. There also was no flashing light on the dash to indicate the alarm was on. A day later it began working again as normal only for it to stop working again the next day. I should point out that the central locking on the car was still functioning.

Getting rather peeved I booked it into the dealers (Desira Norwich) after my local independent Alfa specialist said he would rather not touch the alarm. They checked all the wiring, fuses and earths and reported no problem with them, they then tried changing the ECU in the wheel arch and this apparently solved the problem. They charged me £130 for the diagnosis and booked me into have the ECU replaced (this job was quoted at £220 for parts and labour). The diagnosis work card says there is no connection between alarm and ECU. (This was on last Friday). Now I flew off to Glasgow on Sun morning leaving my car in the carpark only to return to it on Tuesday to find that low and behold that everything was now fine and it was working as normal. It has continued to work all week and shows no sign of failing again. I have bumped up on kerbs to see if it was shock related but no it continues to work. So when I took it to Desira this morning I told them until it fails I am not going to be spending any more money with them. As they told me there was no connection, I pointed out to them, there was clearly some connection as otherwise it would not be working now, queue me beeping the car lots to prove my point.

So £130 down the swanny, the joy of being an Alfa owner.

If anyone can shed any light on this situation I would be glad to hear from you.
