Alfa 155 Silverstone gearbox issues.

Got a friend bringing her Alfa round for me to have a look at later - as title it's a 155 Silverstone.

She was only given the car a few days ago, but has now lost 4th gear, apparently it'll play lots of nice tunes put not select it at all. All other gears are OK.

Are there any 'known' oddity issues regarding this problem that I should be aware of before I start a full scale investigation / strip looking for the common suspects?
