147 M jet 1.9td Stiff Gearstick

Just a quickie, above car 108k on the clock has a stiff almost to the point of being seized gear shift. Is this a dry cable problem, if so light oil lubrication or replacement, or is it something else. Gears engage no problem just shift is so stiff no longer has any self centering. Thanks.

6 speed box? I just got a 166 with the same problem. Apparently an easy fix for a common fault. On top of the box at the end of the cables, under a cover of some description there is apperently some sort of slider with a pin that sticks and is easy to free off, may need dismantling first but try the old WD40 first.

Friend has a 5spd 147 that won't go into 4th sometimes - is that the same thing?
