What olio in the 2.0 TS Spider?
Discussion
I'm going to change the oil shortly and just wondered whether I should first of all use a flush and run the car for a few miles before draining the old oil?
And then what oil should I use?
What grade is used in the TS?
I know Alfa state the Selenia oil should be used but are there better oils around now?
I'd like to use something like Magnatec that will stay around the engine and not drain back into the sump whilst the car is standing so that everything is protected from start up whern cold. This should prolong the life of the variator.
Car has a FSH (all Afla and Alfa specialist) and has just rolled over 44k.

Thanks Pete.
I have used GTX Magnatec in the past and found it transformed a high mileage car I used to own, made it very smooth and quiet.
Castrol list this for the Alfa 2.0 TS:-

I used Castrol RS 10w-60 in my twinny, on the basis of slightly better protection when hot.
Incidentally, did you get your cambelt changed at 36K?
I think I'll go with Mobil 1 since I have a stock of it for the next oil change and see how it goes with that.Incidentally, did you get your cambelt changed at 36K?
Yes, cambelt was done around 37k miles.

I found that my TS went through Selenia at an alarming rate (a litre every 500 miles or so) when the car was new. I switched to Magnatec and the consumption settled down and the car ran noticeably smoother. I've been using it ever since - and the car has done 92,000 miles now.
I tend to agree with that, I've used it in several cars now and it's made a difference in how quiet the car has run, especially from cold. The main dealer for Land Rover near me and the independent I sometimes use will only use magnatec oil when servicing.
