I've just been quoted £500 for a 60k mile service with cam belt and variator, but minus plugs, by an independant specialist on my 1.6 156. I'm interested in how this price matches up with what other people have paid for similar work?

Cheers

Seems slightly on the high side for an indie specialist.

Have a look at the menu pricing at the Alfa workshop - http://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/alfa_romeo_servicing...

At a quick glance, they seem to say a cambelt service on a 1.6 156 would be £380...

edit - and they say an extra £90 for a variator, so I guess it's not miles out.

Does seem high for an independent - was about £125 for a basic service for me - okay so no belts etc - whereabouts are you?

Edit - just seen your other post about an Independent in Bournemouth.....

When i rang them the 60k service on its own was pretty cheap (especially compared with the main dealer) about £270 i think. Asking for the belts added about £100 and the variator about another £100. Not sure if he took off the price of the plugs as he said to do them at 72k to bring the cost down a bit.

The same thing from the Main dealer was over £600 inculding 'discounted labour', was over £700 before that!

If anyone can suggest somewhere either near Bournemouth of Bristol that'll do the service, belt and variator for less, please let me know!

Cheers

My guy's in Swindon if it helps? Italian/Alfa specialist (he used to work for a dealership) and myself and my friend with a 'Grale swear by him.

If he doesn't have a courtesy car I'm sure I could be bribed into lending you mine smile
