Afternoon all, just thought I'd relate to you my tale of woe.

I was proceeding rapidly in my 2.0l Spider Lusso the other day, when I noticed what at first seemed like a slight missing on acceleration, ignoring it as damp I kept going, well it got worse.

Eventually I limped her into a town, by which point it was sounding rather like a tractor and blowing more and more white smoke.....added to that a huge reduction in power.

Convinced that the head gasket had gone I left the wounded beast at a garage for repairs, it turns out that rather than a gasket failure despite all of the symptoms, what had happened was that an injector had gone arwy and poured about 4.0l of petrol into the engine, the oil petrol mix was way above full level and had started to enter the pistons......creating the smoke.

One warning from the mechanic was that had the oil/fuel mix lit down in the sump.....it would have been good-bye time for the engine/car as the fires are hard to put out once they are lit down there.

In the end the bill wasn't too bad at all £99 for the injector, £25 on oil, and a bit of labour....all in all not too bad.

Anyway, just thought I'd log the incident up in case anyone else ever has similar symptoms.
