Hello all,

wonder if somebody could help me.

I tried starting my Alfa a couple of days ago. The engine waas turning over but would not start.

I turned the ignition off then started it again and there was no problem.

The first time I tried starting it there was a Key emblim on the front dash with code which came up. Does anybody know what this means or what fault could possibly be going on.

I have not had any trouble starting it since but I dont fancy getting stranded somewhere.

I know Fiats have a special code key which is usually red. Not sure if this applies with Alfa's.

I look forward to some responses

The problem was with the immobiliser system. To allow the car to start the system reads a transponder in the key; if that's not there or can't be read, the 'code' light stays on & the car won't start. This is, as far as I know, completely separate from the ECU code.

Some Alfas do have the 'red' key (my 145 does) but I'm not sure about 147s - I think they just have two normal keys

Cheers for that Dave.

I spoke to a dealer and he said the same thing.

It's working fine now just a bit worried that I might get stranded one day.

Oh well, off to the dealer to get a key and get it programmed for £180.

Must be expensive plastic.
