So just how good or bad are these ?? i need to take a company car in the BMW 320d touring price range and i see the Alfa is in the same price band scratchchin

I imagine it would come as standard with more options as standard than the BMW ,,be more powerfull and better looking

So whats the hitch ?

There isn't one really.
Back seat space is very tight but you will know how much you need. Yes, they are over weight so performance and economy isn't quite as spectacular as you would hope but it still motors along very well indeed, especially when it's got a few miles on the clock. I love mine. It's well equipped, comfortable, well made, looks great, decent size boot and the handling and performance are more than adequate for me. Oh yes, and my dealer is excellent.
biggrin

I think the important thing is to drive one yourself and make your own mind up.

Have not got that far yet ,, considering 320d touring , 123d coupe , or the Alfa , i would imagine the Alfa is way faster that the others and has a 5 pot not 4 ..

What the standard level of trim like ??

really what Wombat has said, he summed it up very well...I got a 2.4 brera 2 weeks ago and really pleased with it...what I would say though is have a test drive and see what you think yourself, its you that will have to live with it (any car) so its imperative you test drive it for yourself.

In the UK it's high. Glass roof, two tone leather, climate, CD, Brembo brakes, six speed box, 7 airbags plus all the usual stuff. I paid extra for metallic paint, 18" alloys (standard is 17" ) and Bluetooth with USB MP3 player connection in the glovebox.

You made an important point about the 5 pot engine too. It's a heavy lump but it's got much more character and far better noise than any of the four cylinder diesels.

That was the second point about going to the dark side rather than a safe BMW the first was the Alfas looks the second was the 5 pot smile

3 different cars really mate each offering different things for day to day transport...alfa is tight in the back but do you need a 4 seater? its a lovely looking car though and meets my needs (no children etc)... 123d would be a good choice if you wanted 4 seats though with slight trade off in style(IMHO)though some of the press pics look good though it seems rather colour sensitive...and the touring again typically appeals to a different audience again especially in 320D mode...

I suppose it depends how often you need the back seats. I've had three adults in mine for a short journey but most of the time there's just me in it. However, my four and a half year old son goes in the back fine (on his booster seat) and we just pull the passenger seat forward a couple of clicks but there's still plenty of room for his Mum!

(Or so I tell her)....
hehe

...when I went for a test drive my girlfirend could also get in the back again passenger seat a few clicks forward...rear bench is not completely useless...

I think the key learning from Cirvy's experience is that you should test drive the car before you buy it, to make sure you can:
- fit in it
- see out of it
- go as fast as you think you need to
