159 3.2 V6 Sportwagon
Discussion
Anyone got one, any good or bad things I need to know please?
I'm toying with the idea of getting one as an alternative to an A4 Avant, specifically this one http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=tszvc1rv...

Lovely looking cars!

They are working on lightening the cars - especially the V6 Q4, so it would be worth waiting for that to come out. Also the Ti trim level gives a more sporting edge if you prefer. If you need to buy one immediately, for day to day driving I would look at the 2.4JTDm.

I had one for 10 days as a corporate demonstrator a few months ago. I really wanted to like the car but didn't. The 159 is undoubtably a nice package but the engine and gearbox lets the V6 down in my opinion. Fact is, a 159 3.2 wouldn't see which way a 330i or A4 3.2 went let alone keep up. Even the V6 sound is compromised by transmission whine from the 4wd.
The car just didn't feel special enough to justify the cost. I've said it many times but the 159 makes much more sense in the diesel versions where it's more competitive against the German rivals.
(That said, a 3 year old one for £10k would be lot of car for the money)

Thanks for the info, and also for confirming that it's not just me then. I test drove one and it felt "sluggish", certainly didn't feel like it could do the 0-60 time of 7ish seconds that is claimed by Alfa. It also didn't sound as nice as I expected. Still looks bloody georgous though

I felt the acceleration confirmed the figures...I was just hoping that it'd feel faster since the figures aren't that impressive. Sadly the mpg figures were pretty much as quoted as well. With the power avaiable and fuel consumption, I'd want the car to feel much more responsive.
Glad you felt the same about the sound which was perhaps my greatest dissapointment.
Don't disagree on the looks - they are superb but very colour dependent...my silver one looked very ordinary.
As Wombat says, a 2.4 JTDm TI would look to be the best bet in the current 159 range and buying a newish 3.2 is a going to land you in depreciation hell.

2.4 is best package, I agree. Plenty of torque when you need it and it actually sounds good too, which is strange for a diesel Glad you felt the same about the sound which was perhaps my greatest dissapointment.
