alfa 156 selaspeed gear change problems

Hi does anybody know any common fault with alfa 156's not changing due to the elecric gear change ? mine is stuck in first so wont start and cannot move it either.

Does it have fluid for the pump, is the battery in good condition? Can you hear the pump making a noise before you start the engine?

i know a bloke who can fix it if ur near stoke on trent??
hes a det at aaaaaaaaaalfa garage but does a bit on the side ;o)
