The GTs are very reliable on the whole.
They share the same basic platform as the Alfa 156, but tighter and more agile, very quick Alfa steering, fantastic car imo.
Haven't heard of any problems with the diesels (though I think some JTDs had problems with their water pumps), petrols can snap their timing belts (Alfa have revised the cambelt change interval on petrols).
Check for any suspension clonks/bangs (indicates worn bushes), most GTs have a rattly tailgate.
Otherwise as long as they serviced/cambelts changed/oil changed...it should be perfectly reliable
.
Airflow meters seem to be less of a problem on these than the 156, I certainly haven't seen as many problems reported on the GT.
I have mine for sale here, for when you start looking

I've had mine for a few months now, it's my first diesel Alfa but my fifth Alfa in total..... & it's a cracker
It's lively, it drives well, it's practical ( i can get my 5 year old son & my mountain bike in the back!! ),it's reliable, it looks great & it does over 40mpg.
What more do you need??

I've had my GT JTDM Blackline for a few months now and it's an absolute gem. Agile and quick enough for everyday driving. Even driven hard it'll do 40mpg and with a little coaxing I reckon you could get 45ish.
Mine's only done 3500 miles, but it hasn't missed a beat.
One thing I would say, rear parking sensors are almost a must have, as rear visibility isn't great.
My only regret - not getting one sooner!
