GTV 3.0 V6 /GTV CUP V6
Discussion
Cosmetic changes only. If you happen to like the changes then a Cup might be the car for you.
I guess residuals are *slightly* better due to limited supply but pretty much all the mods are available after-market if you really must have the Cup look but can't find one that fits the bill.

The cup is worth it for looks alone. And it is limited edition and therefore "special"
That's the thing. The mechanical bits are the same so it's just the looks that set it apart.
Looks, however, are a subjective thing.
I guess one plus point with the Cup is that most of the people who have one tend to really look after it. And the finish on the wheels is nice, too.
Cups do fetch a premium, and I personally wouldn't pay more to have a mechanically-identical car that looks a bit less nice. A standard GTV 3.0 without the aerokit would be my favourite.
Lookig at this puppy later.

Thing to look out for would be a great help on these cars?

Wasn't the cup made just before the face lift. Usually these kind of LDE are made to move on the last of the old stock.
Must say I like the look and the seats are better without the ribbed leather. When I went from a TS GTV to the V6 I couldn't get as comfy as in the TS because of the leather...it looked fab but you seemed to sit higher.
Was the cup only made in red?

UK cars were all red 3.0, but there was a silver 2.0 turbo for the continent. Was the cup only made in red?
Don't think it was a run-out model as such, the phase 3 facelift wasn't until 2003, and the Cup came out in 2001. I thought they built them for homologation so they could have a dedicated race series?

Have just viewed the V6 Cup and that one was not for me.
Reason being rear arms need replacing, air bag light stayed on, very poor paint job due to a door damage, cracked front splitter, door chips, washer pump not working and a small oil leak at the front of the engine.
Plus to top it off the bloke got arsie about price. He seems to think it's a good price for it's condition!
Oh, and the clutch was very heavy!
Anyone know of any top GTV V6 lusso or Cups?

Can I ask why the rear arms needed to be replaced? As for the oil leek I think that this is likely to be the pipes to the oil cooler which usually also involves buying a new oil coolerV6Alfisti said:
....if you do buy one, buy the lowest mileage car with the greatest amount of work done.
On the GTV V6 check for:-
Cambelt changed (every 5 years or 72k whichever comes first)£500-750
Oil Cooler and associated pipes replaced (£200-300)
Clutch Slip £500-700
Key Code not going out
Red/brown master key (over a thousand for a new key from what i've heard)
Rear Bushes (these are rose jointed on the V6 and less prone to wear)
Air Flow Meter £150 ish
Just be careful, there are lots of abused examples out there
Sounds like there was just too much wrong with that one. Good luck in your search, JonathanOn the GTV V6 check for:-

I don't expect a PERFECT car but the paint job alone was enough to put me off before even looking at the rest of the car. Real shame
as I had high hopes.THE BIG DOG said:
I took a mate who is the brains when it comes to cars and it creeked an awful lot from the rear drives side. He looked under while I was giving it a little bounce and said it needed doing.

Rear arms are generally replaced because of severe corrosion, being bent (accident damage) or needing new bushes. In this case it sounds like it just needed poly bushes.I don't expect a PERFECT car but the paint job alone was enough to put me off before even looking at the rest of the car. Real shame
as I had high hopes. If I viewed a car as you have described I would have come to the same conclusion.

Me too, I think - none of the problems sound like a show-stopper on their own but all of them together, and a vendor who won't move on price...The GTV isn't an especially rare car, another one will come up.
