Cinquecento Sporting
Discussion
What's everyones opinions on these little cars.
I want one now, but a few questions.
What sort of speed can be achieved? 0-60?
How good's the handling?
Will it be any fun if i want to track it?
After a few mod's, say: Manifold, de-cat, induction will there be much of an increase?
Are they reliable?
Sorry for being an arse and asking tons of questions, but i want to make sure this is the car for me, other suggestions will be 106 rallye (too expensive) or an original fiesta (uglier than the Cinq').
If anyone can just answerone question i'd be more than grateful
Thanks Guys,
Dan

Speed it way more than enough (regular 100+) 0-60 no idea, but was OK for an 1100..
Handling should be excellent. See current reviews for the Panda 100 etc etc
On a go kart track, oh hell yes.
No clue
Mine was. One lambda sensor, and a door hinge. No bodywork issues, or other mechanicals. Until year 5, when the extended warranty ran out, as did the cylinder . Into the next one, as it happens. oops.
Great little cars. DO NOT CRASH IN ONE

parp parp.....toot toot.....approaching a nice, clear, dry roundabout, my hands grip the chunky leather steering wheel, im grinning like a maniac as i blip the throttle and expertly match the revs as i change down the gears..the wee car responds urgently, the leather clad gear lever feels perfect in my hands, the gears are slick and smooth, the baby buckets fit my 6ft frame perfectly...into third now, roundabout seems clear, so i floor it and clip the apex as i pull the wheel round....im laughing out loud now, this wee buzbomb seems so alive, so chuckable, so friendly....foot flat to the floor, the chunky little alloys and sticky pirelli rubber grip into the road and the cinq rockets thru the roundabout, flat in third..im juan shumacer mcrae villeneuve in my head by now, the rev counter zings around as we exit the turn and i snatch fourth.....hard on the accelerator as i punch on down the road towards the next grin inducing series of bends on my personal racetrack....
..and its then im passed...by a citroen xsara...diesel....driven by an oap...who appears to be knitting a particularly vile winter jersey for a nephew or grandson that she obviously dislikes intensley......she is completely unaware of my heroic driving ability and good humour at this moment, because iv been enjoying myself at about 40mph..in my head, the wee cinq is a monte carlo stage weapon, a circuit racer, a targa florio racer made for the road.....in reality, its an overtyred shoping trolley with immense feelgood factor and about 50hp....this manic little buzzsaw majors on smiles per gallon....i love it.....
im on my second..(which was also my first..long story...)...absolute hoot..these are not fast cars in the accepted sense of the word...both of mine would wind up way past indicated 100mph and are extremely chuckable and grippy..think along the lines of old 60s mini cooper performance rather than modern hot supermini....
if someone told me i HAD to keep my cinq sporting forever and drive it every day, i wouldnt be too disapointed, thats how much i rate these wee cars...and they are criminally cheap, there is also a very informative, helpful and cheap modding scene if you wanna go down that route...

One of the few cars I regret selling.
Lots of fun in the corners, but do need a bit of TLC. More fun than the Seicento that replaced it – pedal box a bit tight, and in a couple of years of owning one ended up on an AA relay van. It was the same fault – the clutch cable thingumy is made of plastic, and falls apart. I believe there are metal ones available now.
Not the quickest thing in the world, but amazingly chuckable, cheap to run / own and wish I’d kept mine as a town / station car. Might be a bit long in the tooth now, but should be OK if you find a nice one.
Middle Barton Garage used to do some interesting bits for them, and mine had a Group N manifold and a slightly more interesting exhaust - Certainly sounded more interesting that it’s 1.1 engine actually delivered... well until I realised you could put larger capacity Punto engines in the engine bay..

That'll be a Seicento not a Cinquecento.

Excellent rendition, created a great image in my head.
Had to have a look at your profile, thats a long list of previous!! Disappointed to note no Alfa's in there, especially as it looks like they would be your cuppa? Could I suggest a cheap 75 perhaps?
il go update that profile immediately....im on my second alfa, my first was an early 80's gtv2000, i now have a late eighties sud sprint 1.7...think iv owned a further 20 or so cars since i made that list originally..

Why don't you just visit the dedicated club forum on the www.clubcento.co.uk site.
They're a friendly bunch and would be willing to answer all of you questions as many owners track their cars.

I had 2 cinq sportings about 10-12 years ago and loved them. Not at all fast, but quite nippy off the line, and superb to chuck around. They make great little commuter cars, but are usable everyday even for longer journeys.
Rate them very highly and would be happy to have another one. Suspect it may be a challenge to find a nice one as they aren't that durable, but they are cheap - a bargain if you find the right one!

We had one for about 5 years (bought at 1 year old in 1998)
Had it lowered (well, 'slammed to the deck' would be more appropriate - 48mm drop), fitted a strut brace, induction kit and a Janspeed exhaust.
Sounded great, handled well and massive amounts of fun at sane speeds.
I'd have another tomorrow if I had room for one.
Imola blue is the one to have....
Mine was black:

Still miss the little thing - sadly, it looks like it has been scrapped now.
