guys first post alfa wise thinking about a new used car getting bored to tears thinking bmw audi 2 litre diesels for about £18000 then had a brain wave what about a mad 147 gta!! some great examples to be had for £12-£13000 which would compensate for the mpg. Now 2 questions guys what is the real world mpg (i drive within the m25} also please i do around 25-30000miles a year hope to keep it for 3 years .Provided i look after it will it cope or will it give me nightmares wishing id gone the safe option.I have only ever been behind one once and ill never forget the engine noise!!!dont know whether it was a trick exhaust but it was popping and cackling like nothing ive heard then and since it was fantastic. Thanks for your input

Mine was always around 22mpg. No motorways for me though so you could do a bit better probably.

Mine averages about 21mpg with mostly town driving.

Do it - they are awesome cars - I have had mine for about three years.

Be sure that it has had the cambelt changed, though, if it is over 4 years old. Best to change them every 4 years.

Oh - and that it has the 330mm brake upgrade.

Have a look over at www.alfaowner.com for some more detailed info.

I used mine for motorways for a while. If you're steady you can get mid 30s at a steady rate about 70mph.

Using the cruise control knocks about 4-6 mpg off that rate. I guess because it holds the car back on downhills and holding your speed up hills.

Though to make real progress I found it best to knock the speed down to 65mph, and you'll get 38-40mpg.

As for driving it on the motorway, it is a charm. I was commuting Newbury - Preston and in the Elise I needed a lift to get me out. Whereas the Alfa is just so comfortable.

Needless to say the mpg starts to take a hit when you start hunting German metal. Unless they know cars quite well most people think it is a 1.6 with a body kit. evil

Even so I could easily average 30mpg for a 500 mile round trip.
