How much should I be paying for a 60,000 mile service on my 156 GTA? Alfa dealer quoted £498 as apparently it needs new spark plugs which is a big job???

That sounds pretty reasonable tbh. Is that a cambelt or simply a straight service?

Had the cambelt done at 56k, so normal service

Well yet again plugs wise sounds about right. My 2l selespeed cost me 180 for plugs alone at an indie.

£180 for plugs alone?! You got done, and then some! Even at the oft-quoted £12 each, eight of them will cost £96. Shop around and it's around £60 for all eight. 5 minutes to swap.

Ey V6 plugs are a right sod to change (i'm no mechanic and didnd't have all the right tools). Took me 4 hours the first time i did it. Have a look at the front bank - there easy.

Now look for the back bank, under that inlet plenium and under that theres coil packs that need moving, and the angle of the bank means it's all a bit arkward for the home mechanic.. Specialists on the other hand will breeze it.

Think £500 is steep to be honest. The place advertised in the post above will do a service AND belt change for £570 inc VAT, if you look at the difference between the 48k service and 60k service (plugs) theres a price difference of £110. Take into account the cost of plugs (about £50 to them)and you get an idea of how much labour they cost in to change em (around 2 hours?). If Alfa want to charge you £500 for a service because "it's a big job to change the plugs" then tell em to sod off and take your car elsewhere. They make my blood boil!

Other week i got full service (inc Denso plugs & top quality 10w60 oil) 1 hours electrical fault diagnosis (£45) for £300 @ Alfatec in Huddersfield. Spend the saving on a CDA carbon Airbox!

I've had it done now - paid £415 for a full 60k service and MoT - not bad...
