Lately every time I see a 159 Ti I can't get over how stunning they look... I'm not really in the market for one at the minute but I thought I'd just have a quick look around to see what the used prices are like at the minute. However after a quick search in all the usual place (PH classifieds, autotrader, ebay and approved) I couldn't find one V6 model for sale. I know they're hardly a popular model but I was expecting to find at least one!

I have a 156 GTA and LOVE the look of the 159 Ti, but the 2.2 or diesel just don't do it for me. I've been looking on and off for a 3.2 V6 Ti for MONTHS and never seen a used one for sale. There is one or two brand new at £30k. I was beginning to wonder if any have been sold!

I think 25 mpg is just too low for some people given the performance you're getting. A BMW 330i for example developes 268 bhp and has a combined cycle of 39 mpg. Pretty good for a 3 litre straight six... I'd rather have the Alfa despite that of course, but most people are far too sensible to go for it. Still, you'd expect at least one or two knocking around in the country. Have you been looking just locally or nationwide?

clap I salute you for not being dull and buying a diesel! It's just not what an Alfa is about. I hate seeing a beautiful car like the 159 with the unmistakable clatter of a diesel lump under the bonnet. Suprises me that there's not at least a badge with either 3.2 or V6 on it anywhere, does it just say JTS or something?

It's too early for private people to sell them and not many dealers would put them on as a Demo.

But there's still a multitude of 2.2 JTS and Diesel TIs about that are nearly new

Probably dealer demos.
Gorgeous cars. Don't dismiss the 2.4 JTD with such old fashioned stereotypes.
It's a fantastic engine and very quick in the real world.

yes The 2.4 diesel would have been my first choice of engine for me, followed by the 3.2, then the 1.9 diesel which I ended up with. The 2.2 would have been a distant fourth of the four that I tried.

i ended up with the 2.4 q4 jtd sportwagon

3.2 isnt an alfa engine, nor is the 2.2 - gm holden sourced engine - not bad but no old school gta 3.2 :-(

2.4 is easy to remap etc 3.2 impossible unless you spend 5k on a supercharger....

suggest driving all of them and making your mind up imo - all different and have pros and cons

2.4 q4 ti's are like rocking horse do do however! if not planning tuning the fwd is fine imo - likewise a 1.9 remapped is as fast as a standard 2.4 but doesnt sound as good as teh 5 pot

ti is much better than the lusso imo due to seats. suspension is easy upgrade for lusso but the sports interia aint as easy a swap!

Yes, it is rather unfortunate that it's not the old Arese V6 we all know and love, which is a shame. But I'm just not a fan of diesels, not matter how could the performance can be. I don't like the way they sound, I don't like the power delivery and limited power band, and I don't like the way some belch black smoke out under heavy acceleration. I know the 2.4 jtd sounds a bit better being a 5 pot and all, but every one I've seen go past me or start up still has that depressing clatter of every other diesel. Very very sorry if this offends and JTD owners here, you have great cars just not for me. The thing is being allergic to diesel the V6 is the logical choice, I usually like to get a slightly faster car every time I buy a new one, and buying the 2.2 JTS would be like taking a step backwards, same power as my current car but much heavier and therefore much slower. I suppose I could always get a 156 gta, they are temptingly cheap now, just not quite as good looking as the 159.

Not sure about the 2.2, but the 3.2 is just a Holden block - all the top end (arguably the important stuff) is bespoke Alfa. You're right it's not the same as the old Arese V6 - it's more powerful, torquier, cleaner ... ...not as pretty, though, amd doesn't sound quite as good. Suppose it depends what you want from an engine. smile

I was reading the other day (in a real book, not the internet) that the original Holden block is a 3.6 and the bore/stroke characteristics didn't suit Alfa so they use it as a 3.2. So it really is just a bare block they are buying in from (an extremely advanced) engine plant in Australia and Alfa build the engine to their spec using their own bits.

The 2.2 seems to be an Alfa version of the GM Europe engine, but even then it isn't still a like for like unit as the Alfa compression ratio, power and torque are different.
