On my way home a few nights ago a Kappa pulled up at a set of traffic lights and I happened to have a quick look as it's a car that's rarely seen outside of Italy and I spotted something a little odd.

At the bottom of the front wing next to the door was a very small and discreet Ferrari badge. As the car pulled away it sounded fairly meaty. Not silly, but it had the sound of something that had a little extra. Does anyone happen to know if Lancia ever made anything like the 8.32 in the Kappa range? A quick google didn't bring back any results.

Nope, the Kappa was made with the following:

2.0 turbo 4 cylinder (until '98), Lancia engine. 205 hp
2.0 and 2.4 5 cylinders, Fiat engines. 155 & 175 hp
2.0 turbo 5 cylinder (from '98), Fiat engine. 220 hp
3.0 automatic version, Alfa V6 24V engine. 204 hp

and 2.4 diesel...

That was what I thought too. I'm not arguing with that in any way but this Kappa was odd. Why have a Ferrari badge in a place where no one would normally look? Why have an exhaust note that sounded meaty but not rediculous? If it's something that was done outside of the Fiat Group then I'm quite impressed with the results. It looked to be a very very good and subtle job like the 8.32. Hence my question.

It wasn't the Pininfarina badge?

Both the 5 and 6 cylinder engines sound meaty, so maybe he just had a big exhaust?
Or a hole in his manifold.

hehe

I was brought up on a diet of Lancias (Fulvia, Flavia Coupe, Prisma & Thema) Granted, only the Flavia coupe was a Pininfarina design but I think I know the difference between a Pininfarina badge and a Ferrari badge. Even after 25 or so years I can still remember polishing that Pininfarina badge on my fathers car.

On another note.. That Giulia of yours. lick If I ever have some spare cash that's one car that I want above all others.

504 bhp at the front wheels!!!! yikes

Unless he's decided to travel to Budapest and have his car re-registered here I don't think it was him. IIRC that car is or was maintained / fettled by Auto Integrale I think. I vaguely remember Keith mentioning it to me one time. Could be wrong though.

I'm guessing the one I saw must be either a custom job or just someone trying to look subtly flash. What gets me is that it looked 'right' in that it could have been some sort of 8.32 Kappa. The old 8.32 Thema was very subtle as was this.

Trevs road car is a silver coupe..he had the only other one...another coupe as a damaged donor vehicle...not sure if any others have come over the chanel.

Pilky, you might be confused with another car, as Trevor's road K is blue. I know the owner of another blue coupe in the UK, and I understand there are a couple of others that have been imported, plus at least one 20v turbo estate. nerd

The race car donor was/is a saloon and in its most recent guise put out 597bhp yikes. It's being put back together again for '09 smile

Hiya
Just browsing and spotted you lot discussing Trevors Kappa. Just thought I'd add some more background.
His old 24v V6 is now at home and singing sweetly in the back of my carcool
