GTV V6 - Water temps
Discussion
My 1998 3ltr GTV 24v seems to run rather cold. It takes ages to get the needle to move then it normals hangs around 60-70 mark, never more.
I drive fairly steadily, I've only had the car a few months but when it was a bit warmer in the summer, the readings were the same.
Is this normally operating temp for these cars? I#d expect to be sitting 80-90 on my other cars so this would point towards a thermostat sticking open on my GTV.
My mate has a 1.6 T-spark which sits at simular temps to mine, which makes me wonder do Alfa's generally run low temps?
Cheers,
Richard.

That's exactly(-ish) where the temperature on my 98 GTV V6 was when the thermostat was faulty.
With a new thermostat it sat round about 90. Dodgy thermostat! I'm just about to replace my second one in 2 years. Fortunately they have a fail safe device which holds it open rather than closed, but it does mean the car will only get warm in traffic.
Not expensive ~ £40. If you look on the alfa owner website, you can find a pictorial series describing how to remove it and swap it over yourself. Took me about an hour after faffing around with a couple of over tightened nuts; apart from that it wasn't hard.
